5 Red Hot Events All First Time Cruisers Must Do to Have a Great Cruise

First time cruisers probably are not sure what to expect when it comes to on board activities. Well that's to say, you may have some idea depending on who you booked to cruise with and what their commercials or web sites say. Some activities are run like major events. Some activities are just something to do while passing the time on board. Some activities are done on every cruise and some you'll only find on certain cruise lines. First timers are generally more into getting involved in as many activities as possible while more experienced cruisers usually have their favorites that are the only ones they will attend. As a first timer, here's a list of the must see activities that you'll want to have on your check list to make that first time cruise complete.

1. Bridge tour - unfortunately after September 11th, a lot of cruise lines decided to get rid of this activity sighting safety reasons. However it has started to make a comeback. Some cruise lines have it open to anyone who would like to go, while other lines charge for it as part of a behind the scenes tour. Either way it is pretty cool to see where they pilot the ship . 2. Galley Tour - Same as the bridge tour, some cruise lines have this as a free activity while others offer it as part of a behind the scenes tour at an extra price. You'll be amazed at how clean the kitchen is when you go through. It's not just like that because of the tour, it's like that all of the time. USPH (United States Public Health) holds the cruise ships to a much higher standard than any restaurant on land.

3. Deck Party - This is usually the biggest party of the cruise. It will be complete with a great big buffet, live music and games.

4 Captain's Cocktail Party - This is usually held on the first formal night. So everyone is all dressed up, free cocktails and your chance to meet the Master of the vessel. It really will take you back to the old days of cruising and what it would have been like to travel on the transatlantic cruises many years ago. Some cruise lines have started to phase the free cocktail part of the party out, or have gotten rid of the party all together. Some will say because it is outdated, or that it no longer fits with their theme. The reality is budget cuts and ways to save money.

5. The Guest Talent Show - All though it too is starting to disappear from some cruise lines, the guest talent show is worth the watch. If you ask anyone who works on board in the entertainment department, they will tell you that the Guest Talent Show is the most painful thing they have to do all week, most of the time they would be right. However, every once in a while amongst the people singing "Amazing Grace," "Crazy" and "The Rose" you'll find an act that is absolutely unbelievable. So if you go to one and it's not really great, don't give up on them, cause you never know when you will see that truly special act.
